Participation should be expected when in our sessions; however, it will be determine by what you want and how you want to proceed.
I will share whatever is asked of me if it will help instill a level of trust with my clients. Trust is important! I have walked down many paths in my life and if what I have seen or done can help shed light on an issue for someone else I will; with their permission be forth coming.
Myself and our Collaborative colleagues offer texting and calling support outside of your traditional session time. We understand that things happen outside of scheduled times, which encourages us to be more readily able to support in the moment. This is a core belief within the mentalization and relational approach to working with people dedicated to a collaborative treatment engagement.
Absolutely, as a person engages in this work they continue to grow and develop skills that no longer require the support of a therapist or coach. My goal is to help support you in developing these various skills so you're able to navigate obstacles independently. In some occasions people enjoy having a person to talk to on an ongoing basis. I'm an advocate towards you being the expert of your own treatment and during our work, if you feel that it is time to terminate treatment, I welcome this discussion. Each person is unique and the length of treatment may change from person to person. I respect the individuals decision to start and end treatment in a healthy relational manner.
Beginning treatment can feel intimidating. To mitigate that resistance, I encourage a person to come to session in a quiet and comfortable space, allowing us to uphold privacy during our time. In preparation for our first session, I recommend clients to be themselves and allow the process to unfold as treatment progresses. Depending on the treatment approach, it may be helpful to bring a pen and paper to take notes or outline a plan, though this is not always necessary. The only thing required for preparation is you. I will help create an environment to decrease the anxiousness of meeting someone new, allowing us to have a deeper dialogue regarding what you would like to work on. In most first sessions, we will go over a questionnaire to establish a baseline understanding of one another. As we get to know each other our relationship will evolve and treatment approach may change to fit your needs. This is a joint decision as we determine what is most helpful to obtain your desired goals.
Throughout my own upbringing, I valued the honest support of those around me. As I conduct this work, I enjoy being able to provide support, empower others, and foster personal growth. There is a specific journey for each person and I embrace the variations to fit the specific needs. This provides me with the opportunity to establish creative solutions and work together. In each session, I'm provided with a sense of fulfillment knowing I've create a safe environment to bring about the life they've envisioned.
