From your perspective, what is therapy?

Therapy is a space created by client and therapist for the client to heal, accomplish goals and gain insight into their lives. It is a tool that helps clients better navigate the future by understanding the past and learn new skills to make meaningful change in their lives.

If I have never been to therapy before, what should I expect? How do I know if I should go, and how do I start?

People enter into therapy for all kinds of reasons, with all different capacities of coping and in all different phases of their lives. Not everyone that walks in the door needs to feel overwhelmed or unable to cope. Therapy is an investment in yourself and your wellbeing. Just as we try to be healthy by eating right, exercising, getting enough sleep, therapy is yet another way to take care of yourself. In the first session we begin the development of an authentic and genuine therapeutic connection. We will collaborate and identify what you hope to accomplish in therapy. This could be a goal or the creation of space to process the past, present or future. Using a variety of therapeutic techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and support of the mind-body connection, I tailor treatment to each individual.
