Message from Dr. Angela

Let me introduce myself and share a bit about my background and experience. My name is Angela Gala, and I completed my medical education at the Leningrad State Medical Institute in Russia; I earned my master's degree in 1998 from Erasmus University, Holland, and a Ph.D. in 2014. After completing my Mastery of Transformation Coaching program at the Health Coach Institute, I became board certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP). I've always believed in our body's natural capacity to self-heal and rewire dysfunctional connections between mind, body, and spirit. I demonstrated it by trial and error testing during my transition to menopause. I've always been interested in women's growth journeys - how we change over time, individually and as a community, through shared experiences. I am passionate about helping women who feel lost in a midlife crisis find their way back into their bodies, regain control of how they think and feel about themselves, and have the time of their lives doing it! I'm a proud Mom of two adult children and the happiest grandmother to two beautiful princesses. I love spending time with my extended family in Houston and on my native country's soil (Cuba)! How should I prepare for my first session with you?

If you've never tried one of our sessions, I would first suggest that you complete the initial questionnaire. The idea is simple - if you don't know what will happen during your session, who can? You'll want to be sure that you are comfortable with the setup and ready for anything. Complete the initial questionnaire, which takes about 3 minutes to complete, and tells me everything I need to know about your session needs. Feel free to contact me if there's anything else I can do for you!

What are your policies and practices around insurance?

At this time, we are not enrolled with any insurance provider. However, we are happy to provide you with a receipt that you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance company. We understand that each individual's healthcare needs vary, and we want to do what we can to help make our services accessible and affordable for everyone. Thank you for considering our practice!

From your perspective, what is coaching?

Coaching is a collaborative, solution focused, results-oriented and systematic process, in which the coach facilitates the enhancement of work performance, self-directed learning and personal and professional growth of the client. Throughout the working relationship, the coach will engage in direct, personal and often challenging conversations. Successful coaching requires an active collaborative approach between the client and coach. The coach plays the role of facilitator of change; it is the client’s responsibility to enact change. Coaching is not therapy and thus does not aim to treat psychological problems. You may have to disclose details of past or present psychological or psychiatric treatment. If such issues become significant during the coaching relationship the coach may recommend referral to an appropriate and qualified specialist.

How long should I commit to being in coaching, at least in the beginning?

It depends on your needs and commitment; usually, my clients enroll in 90-day programs. However, I always encourage people to commit to at least 6 months of coaching as this allows for the most change and transformation. Life is fluid and ever-changing, so it's important that you have a coach who can support you through the highs and lows, and help you stay on track with your goals. Coaching provides accountability, guidance, expertise, and support--all of which are essential for lasting change. :)

Do you have experience (5-10 years+) working with any types of obstacles or people in particular?

I've served as a medical doctor for 30 years in prevention, education, health care, and public health services. I've seen firsthand the devastating effects that illnesses can have on people and their families. In my experience, the human spirit is incredibly resilient, and I've seen countless people fight hard to overcome obstacles - both big and small. Every person has something special to offer the world, and I believe that everyone deserves a chance to shine.

What is the best part of the work for you?

The best part of my work is seeing my clients evolve through transformation into a better, more empowered version of themselves. It's incredibly fulfilling to witness the positive changes that come about as a result of working together and helping someone to become their best self. I love it when my clients tell me that I've helped them find their voice, or that they now have the courage to do things they never thought possible. It's an amazing feeling to know that you've played even a small role in someone else's happiness and success.

Are there any philosophies or values that inform your work that I should know about?

At Dr. Gala Health Coaching practice, we base our work on ten paradigms of Transformational Coaching: 1. How You Do One Thing Is How You Do Everything 2. All Behavior And Experience Has A Positive Intention: For the part of the person that is responsible for a particular behavior, that behavior has a positive intention. And here's the magic sprinkles of this… "every act is an act of love or a cry for love." No exceptions! 3. Your Challenges Are Your Greatest Gifts. Your challenges provide a solution to other people with the same or similar problem. We see them as problems, but we look at them the wrong way. They are actually gifts. They are the things that will allow us to experience miracles in our lives and help others experience miracles in their lives. Your problem is their solution. 4. There's No Such Thing As Failure, Only Feedback. There is no such thing as failure, only experience. Experience is Feedback, and Feedback is what enables us to adjust our behavior in the direction of success. 5. Everyone Is Winning The Game They Are Playing. What someone is experiencing is what they want to be experiencing. The bottom line is that we make the best choices available given our resources/environment/conditioning at the time. Healing, growth, and success are not a question of getting rid of behaviors but instead acquiring more behavioral choices. 6. The More Flexible You Are (Versus Rigid) The More You Have The Ability To Determine The Quality Of Your Experience At Any Point In Time. Flexibility refers to choice. Rigidity refers to no choice. No choice means compulsive or automatic behavior. Having choice in any context gives us the freedom to respond in useful and satisfying ways. 7. Anyone Can Learn To Do Anything. If one person can do something, it is possible to model it and teach it to anyone else. Anyone can accomplish anything if it is broken down into small enough chunks. 8. In Order To Grow, You Have To Let Go Of The Thing You Are Attached To That's Stopping You. For things to change, you have to change. You have to let go of all the "if's" and "but's." The "if's" and "but's" keep you where you are. You may have to let go of shame, blame, doubt, guilt, limited perception, and resentment… whatever keeps you stuck. We always have to let go of something to get to the next stage of our evolution. 9. The Meaning Someone Makes About What Happened Is More Meaningful Than The Content Of What Happened. So it's not about what happened to you – although this can be useful… it's really about what meaning you made about what happened to you. 10. "How" Is More Useful Than "Why?" Asking "how?" is useful in that it naturally leads to breaking a process down into manageable chunks. You'll hear us ask "how?" questions all the time in coaching… we're much more interested in how someone creates their internal experience versus why. Asking "why?" usually prompts rationalization, excuses, stories, and/or blame for the way things are. We can't heal and change if we're stuck in the why. Blame, shame, victim-hood, fear… these mind states override our ability to let go which is a key part of transformational process.

If I have never been to coaching before, what should I expect? How do I know if I should go, and how do I start?

Life eventually slaps us all, and this can create lasting damage to the way we view ourselves and the world around us. In many cases, this leads people to abandon even the most modest ambitions because they do not believe they are capable or deserving. We often develop unhelpful habits that keep us from reaching our goals and expectations. Many of us do not realize that our past experiences and how we interpret them determine our perception of who we are. As a transformational coach, I can help you see this. I will also work to help you interpret your experience of the world in a more useful way. This is how I will guide you to become the best version of yourself. I will help you erase your limiting beliefs and become that person ready to take the bull by the horns and charge towards your life purpose. The end result is that you will find the confidence to discover and manifest the most assertive, ambitious, and successful leader within you. Summary of benefits: Standard benefits: - You'll feel more confident and capable. - You'll know how to reach your goals and expectations. Emotional benefits: - Live the life you want to live, not the one that's been dealt to you. - Be free of self-doubt or guilt for once in your life.
