Message from Mary

Reaching out for help is a magnificent and brave act. I am so glad you are here. A little bit about me: my approach is to start where you are. I want to hear your story and your journey. We will explore your concerns and decide together about possible next steps and solutions. I have over 20 years of non-profit social service work, particularly during the peak of the AIDS epidemic. I learned so much about perseverance, courage, and grief through my experience. I look forward to supporting you towards finding the same healing and discovering just how strong you really are. I am a graduate of the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and a proud member of Gen X. I have extensive expertise with LGBTQIA+ young adults, grief and grieving, depression, and anxiety. I am a native New Yorker, a married lesbian in New York City, and a parent to two cranky cats. I am committed to a safe, welcoming space, and my goal is to assist you on the journey towards healing.

Get to Know Mary

How will our relationship be different than relationships I have with friends/loved ones?

The therapeutic relationship exists without judgement. My role is to offer you a safe and consistent opportunity to share whatever concerns you may have, and discuss the ways in which we might work towards wellness. I am legally required to keep our sessions confidential, and my education and training have prepared me to addresses a variety of issues in an open, honest and informed manner. The therapeutic relationship is focused on you.

How should I prepare for my first session with you?

By reaching out for help, you have already begun your therapy journey. At our first visit, we will spend a short time getting to know each other, and will then explore together whatever concerns or challenges you would like to address. This is your therapy and I will be right beside you along the way.

What led you to become a mental healthcare practitioner?

From a young age, I have always been drawn to those who need support, guidance, and general kindness. This led me to social services where I've worked and volunteered for many years. I've worked with people with AIDS/HIV, the LGBTQA+ community and young adults. I also have extensive experience addressing such issues as long term illnesses, grief and grieving, depression, and anxiety. I feel very fortunate to do this work, and wouldn't trade it for anything.
